Egypt 1882 Full Size Collection_Military Ties Operational Service Sierra LeoneInstituted in 1882, the first issues carried the date 1882 on the reverse, subsequently committed as the campaign continued up to 1889. British involvement in Egypt increased significantly after the Suez Canal was opened in 1869 with the British Army providing many Officers on secondment to the Khedives Forces. All recipients of this medal were awarded the Khedive's Star
